Green Teens Workshop & Discussion Group (1)

How often are you just too tired to make a full meal for yourself after a long day, and just pop a ready-made meal into the microwave or order some takeout? Today, with over 7 billion people in the world, food accounts for over a quarter (26%) of greenhouse gas emissions, thus making it one of the main reasons of climate change. By 2050, another 2 billion people will have joined us: the way we currently produce and consume food is not sustainable.

We have all heard that red meat has a high carbon footprint or that pesticides are bad, but individuals, especially teenagers, do not always have a place to discuss and learn about the food choices that are better for ourselves and our planet. Additionally, it is in our best interest to encourage and inspire our youth to develop sustainable eating habits, as they will eventually become the leaders of our economy and society.

Any Message member's teen and their guest(s) interested in sustainable eating, whether they are passionate or just curious, can join the group. Come learn concrete skills while having fun with people their own age. 

• Virtual round table discussion portion where we discuss some facts and figures and our eating habits
• Share concrete ideas of what we can do to decrease the impact that we have on the environment. 
• A live cooking workshop (each member can follow along at home) to get us started on some meal ideas.

THEMES:.

Workshop 2: October 18th – 11:30AM-1:00PM

Theme: eating less meat.

Recipe: Whole wheat pasta with sweet broccoli and fried tofu.

Workshop 3: November 22th – 3:00PM-4:30PM

Theme: buying local foods.

Recipe: Cooking challenge! Each person has to buy a local food from each category of a list and the person with the most creative recipe wins.
