About the Event
Did you know there are at least 3 things you can do RIGHT NOW to help make the planet safer? Help us, a group of teens teach each other how to do this (and hopefully get our parents to buy in).
Any Message member's teen and their guest(s) interested in sustainability, whether they are passionate or just curious, can join the group. Come learn concrete skills while having fun with people their own age.
- Virtual round table discussion portion where we discuss some facts and figures and our eating habits
- Share concrete ideas of what we can do to decrease the impact that we have on the environment.
- A live cooking workshop (each member can follow along at home) to get us started on some meal ideas.
After you RSVP, you will get an email with the info on how to connect to the workshop virtually.
THEMES:
Workshop 1: September 20nd – 11:30AM-1:00PM
Theme: food waste.
Today, with over 7 billion people in the world, food accounts for over a quarter (26%) of greenhouse gas emissions, thus making it one of the main reasons of climate change. By 2050, another 2 billion people will have joined us: the way we currently produce and consume food is not sustainable.
Recipe: One recipe, and then another with the scraps of the first.
Workshop 2: October 18th – 11:30AM-1:00PM
Theme: eating less meat.
Recipe: Whole wheat pasta with sweet broccoli and fried tofu.
Workshop 3: November 22th – 3:00PM-4:30PM
Theme: buying local and stop all plastics
Recipe: Cooking challenge! Each person has to buy a local food from each category of a list (and without any plastic wrapping, containers or bags) and the person with the most creative recipe wins.
