About the Event

Does your child have a phone (or are you considering buying your child a phone)? Then this is an event you need to attend. Most parents did not grow up with smartphones and the boundaries we, as parents, must set  for our children's safety and their mental health, have never been modeled to us in the past.

It is a constant battle to manage screen time and keeping kids connected to the world off the internet. Dr. Catherine Pearlman, author of First Phone: A Child’s Guide to Digital Responsibility, Safety and Etiquette, has tips to ensure kids stay safe, smart and kind online. Some topics that will be discussed include boundaries, digital etiquette, safety, self-care, social media, cyberbullying, sexting, sleep, when to google and when not to, and scams/phishing. Dr. Pearlman will also explain how and when to monitor children’s phones, how to limit time on social media, and why it’s so important to turn off notifications and keep phones out of the bedroom. This event will begin with a  presentation, and then Catherine will leave plenty of time for Q%A.

Dr. Catherine Pearlman is the founder of The Family Coach and a licensed clinical social worker who has been working with children and families for more than 25 years. She’s on a mission to help parents enjoy parenting more. To that end, she advises on all matters of parenting from toddlers to teens on discipline, technology, behavior modification, food issues, sibling rivalry and more. Dr. Pearlman  is the author of "First Phone: A Child’s Guide to Digital Responsibility, Safety and Etiquette" and "Ignore It: How Selectively Looking the Other Way Can Decrease Behavioral Problems and Increase Parenting Satisfaction". Dr. Pearlman received her doctorate in social welfare from Yeshiva University and her master’s degree in social work from New York University. She is the mom of two teens.

As as special bonus, a copy of her popular book will be raffled off at the event!

This event has a group. You’re welcome to join the group once you register for the event.
